Father's Day Reflection Exercise

Introduction: Start by finding a quiet, comfortable space where you won't be disturbed. Have some paper and a pen ready, or if you prefer, you can use a digital device to write. Take a few deep breaths to center yourself.

Step 1: Setting Intentions

-Begin by writing down your intention for this exercise. It might be something like, "To feel connected to my dad/spouse," or "To honor their memory and process my feelings."

Step 2: Recalling Memories

-Write about a favorite memory you shared with your father, grandfather, spouse. Try to capture as much detail as possible: the sights, sounds, smells, and emotions of the moment. What made this memory significant for you?.

Step 3: Expressing Feelings

-Reflect on what you loved most about them. Write it out. It could be their laugh, their wisdom, or the way they made you feel safe. Allow yourself to express any and all emotions that arise—sadness, anger, gratitude, love.

Step 4: Communicating Unspoken Words

-Write a letter to your loved one. Include anything you wish you could tell them now. How have you grown since they passed? What would you want them to know about your life today?

Step 5: Imagining Advice

-Take a moment to imagine what advice they might give you if they were here today. Write this down. How can their wisdom help you with something you’re currently facing?

Step 6: Closing Reflection

-To conclude, reflect on how this exercise made you feel. What insights did you gain? Would you like to keep anything you wrote as a recurring reflection or perhaps share it with someone else?

Step 7: Grounding

-Finish the exercise by doing something grounding. This could be a short walk, a few minutes of deep breathing, or enjoying a cup of tea. Give yourself some time to transition from this reflective state back into your day.
